Puakina ThomsenJuly 21, 1927 - March 19, 2014Puakina Leilehua Aina Thomsen, 86, of Soda Springs passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014.Puakina was born on July 21, 1927 in Hilo, Hawaii the daughter of Ah Kui and Julia Amoe Waddell Aina.She was raised in Hilo and graduated from High School there then moved to Honolulu to work and when she returned to Hilo she met Taft Junior Thomsen who was in the Navy. They were later married on December 24, 1949 in Hilo, Hawaii. He passed away on June 2, 2006. Being in the Navy they lived in San Francisco, San Diego, Bellflower CA, and Norfolk VA. She was a member of the Church of Latter-Day Saints. She had served in various calling in Relief Society and Primary, and had served missions with her husband in Hawaii (Kauai - Island), and Temple missions to Chicago, Ill, Washington, DC, Orlando, FL, and also worked at the Logan Utah Temple.Puakina enjoyed sewing, quilting, small crafts, sewing clothes for herself, quilts for her family and playing board games.She is survived by two sons and two daughter, Taft J. Thomsen II Afton, WY, Jonathan S. & April Thomsen Providence, UT, Kathleen L. & Gary Norman of Soda Springs, ID, Julia & Rollie Murray of Pocatello, ID. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, two brothers Billy Aina and Henry Aina, and three sister Vera Ermatinger, Nani Villaverde and Myra Paul. She was preceded in death by her husband, 6 brothers and 4 sisters.Services will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Soda Springs LDS Stake Center. The family will visit with friends on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Sims Funeral Home and on Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Stake Center prior to services. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs.Memories and condolences may be shared with the family online at www.simsfh.com.
