R. Marcel MessierAge: 86R. Marcel Messier peacefully passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017 at the UVM Medical Center, surrounded by family. He was born on May 23, 1930 in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec to Eugene and Elodia Messier.Marcel moved to Vermont in 1956 after graduating from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec and the University of Sherbrook, Quebec with degrees in business administration and accounting. Marcel was a Certified Public Accountant and opened his own firm in 1967 in Burlington VT. He also owned and operated an apartment complex on College Street for 35 years.Marcel found the love of his life, Cecile Dufresne, in Winooski, Vermont. After courting for several years, they married in 1963, began a family and spent the next 54 years showing what true love is. Marcel was a romantic who loved music and dancing. While dating Cecile, he even carved a heart in a tree at Ethan Allen Park. Family time was very important and always a priority. He loved outdoor activities including camping, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed travel and vacationed often in Maine, New Hampshire and Quebec City. He was a talented do-it-yourselfer, especially with automotive and home repair. Marcel was a man of Christian faith and was proud to have known his great aunt Elisabeth Bergeron, the foundress of the Sisters of Saint-Joseph of Saint-Hyacinthe. Marcel was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Elodia; his sister Gisele and brother Roger.He is survived by his wife Cecile Messier of Shelburne; his son David Messier and his wife Cynthia of Williston; his daughter Marie Friedman and her husband Scott, and grandchildren Jason, Evan and Emilee of Essex Junction; his son Donald Messier and his wife Caroline and grandchildren Colleen and Clayton of Essex Junction; his brothers Gaston Messier, Gilles Messier, Rosaire Messier and Gerald Messier, and many loving nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Shelburne, VT.
