Celebrating The Life Of
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun; Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
Rachelle Renea Sims passed away on October 19, 2021, in San Francisco, CA. Her life may have been cut shorter than may have been expected, but she touched the hearts of many while she was with us. Rachelle was born on August 28, 1980, to parents Carolyn Sims and Tommy Harris in Vicksburg, MS. God blessed her to come into this world three minutes after her twin sister. She was affectionately called Chelle ‘C’ or Chelly ‘D’, depending on who was addressing her.
After her parents’ parted ways, Rachelle’s mother Carolyn would be joined to John T. Adams. He would come to raise Rachelle and her twin, initially by way of, New Orleans, LA before the family’s relocation to California.
In 1984, Rachelle relocated with her family to San Francisco, CA where she excelled and grew to love sports especially, basketball which she played while in middle school. She and her twin, also were active in the Girl Scouts organization as Brownies and members of one of the San Francisco Boys & Girls Club chapters. She attended Paul Revere Elementary School, Luther Burbank Jr. High School, and Balboa High School, all of which were in San Francisco. In 1996, the family relocated to Richmond, CA and in 2000, Rachelle received her high school diploma from West Contra Costa Adult School in Richmond, CA.
Rachelle was baptized at the age of 12 at Greater New St. John Missionary Baptist Church in San Francisco, CA. Later she would attend, Victory Outreach Church Baptist Church in Richmond, CA. Rachelle had a friendly and outgoing personality. She had a contagious smile. Even as a child, she displayed a calm, generous spirit while playing with other children on the playground. Rachelle had a big heart, and immeasurable strength. Her passion was taking care of people. In fact, she helped to raise her younger cousins and the children of some of her friends. Rachelle dearly loved her godchildren, as well.
One of Rachelle’s favorite pastimes was travelling, especially to the “fun houses!!!” in Reno and Las Vegas. She LOVED the 49ers, and the Golden State Warriors. She was respected and trusted, by the young and old. Rachelle was truly blessed and lived a great life while among us.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents John and Mary Harris; and her maternal grandparents, James and Adell Gully.
Rachelle leaves to cherish her memory: her mother, Carolyn Sanders and stepfather, Webb Sanders; her goddaughters, Cynthia Jones, Rolandranique Lincoln, Za’Quoia Lincoln, Sumayyah Arafat, and godson, Azari Emenike; her sisters, Racquel L. Sims (twin), Sharissa Robinson, Chandries Harris, and Shannon Davis.
