Stankey, Ralph H.Ralph H. Stankey, age 80, a life long resident of Manitowoc, passed away early Wednesday morning, November 21, 2012 at the family residence surrounded by his loving family.Ralph was born on February 25, 1932 in Manitowoc. He was the son of the late Herman and Margaret Comac Stankey. Ralph was a graduate of Lincoln High School with the class of 1950. He continued his education attending the University of Wisconsin Manitowoc extension. In 1951 Ralph joined the United States Air Force and after training he was assigned to the 334th Fighter Squadron at Kimpo Airbase in Korea in gun site maintenance serving on the F86 Saber jet. He was honorably discharged in January 1955 and was awarded the Korean Presidential Unit Citiation, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the 50th Anniversary Korean War Service Medal. Ralph was married to Patricia Klein on May 18, 1957 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He was a long time involved member of the former Sacred Heart Parish including lector, usher and serving on the parish council. Ralph was also past Scout Master of Pack 109. He had been previously employed with Mirro Aluminum, Sears and Manitowoc Engineering. He retired from Holiday House in 1994 as a maintenance supervisor of rest areas on I-43 north of Manitowoc. Upon retiring he very much enjoyed being a charter member of the Boys Club of 1950. He volunteered at Magee Elementary School in Two Rivers and Thunder on the Lakeshore air show. Past hobbies Ralph enjoyed included golf, bowling, curling and he most enjoyed spending quality time with his family, friends and grandchildren. Ralph was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.He is survived by his wife of 55 years: Patti; children: David Stankey, Milwaukee, WI; Douglas (Lisa) Stankey, Manitowoc; Cindy (Tom) Zagorski, Sussex, WI; proud and cherished grandpa to Jacob, Brittany, Ryan, Aaron, Amanda and Gregory; cousin: Don (Dee) Steinke, Omaha, NB; sister-in-law: Thelma Stankey, Marion IN; sister-in-law: Mary Jo (Wilbert) Crane, Wautoma, WI and Katie Brady, New Franklin, MO; fond uncle to many nieces and nephews along with his best and dearest friends: Dr. John Leschke, Oshkosh, WI and Kenneth Steinbrecher, Nashville, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents: Herman and Margaret Stankey; two brothers: James and Roger; two sisters: Dorothy and Frances; also many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Grand. Relatives and friends may call at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Grand on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. David Pleier. Cremation will follow at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel. Burial of the cremains with military rites will be held privately for the family at a later date at Knollwood Cemetery. Following the funeral services there will be a luncheon held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home.Online condolences to the family can be sent to www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com.Ralph's family wishes to express sincere appreciation for all the visits, cards, thoughts and prayers from relatives and friends.
