BATEH Ramzi Abraham Bateh, 83, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2016. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Salwa Ramzi Bateh, two sons, George Ramzi Bateh (Abeer) and Charles Ramzi Bateh, three daughters, the late Rhonda Bateh Ridsdale (Noel), Gloria Bateh Baez (William) and Sandra Lee Bateh, two brothers, the late Issa Abraham Bateh (the late Mary Issa Bateh), the late Shihadeh Abraham Bateh (the late Naheel Shihadeh Bateh) and two sisters Asma Mousa Bateh (the late Mousa David Bateh), all of Jacksonville, Florida and Sumaya Ayesh Nasrah (the late Ayesh Butros Nasrah) of San Francisco, California, eight grandchildren Dr. Brittany Bateh, Steven Bateh, Ramzi Bateh, Leila Bateh, Christian Bateh, Jared Ridsdale, Hannah Baez, and Elias Baez. Mr. Bateh was born on January 1, 1933 in Ramallah, Palestine to Abraham Shihadeh Bateh and Julia Abraham Bateh. He immigrated to the United States on July 17, 1950 at the age of 17 and was proud to have recently celebrated 66 years of residency and citizenship in America. Mr. Bateh was a fixture in the Jacksonville business community as an independent business owner. He worked side by side with his brother Shihadeh for nearly 30 years in their White Spot Banner Food grocery store on 19th and Main and later 18th and Main. He later owned and operated The Sandwich House, an eatery on Jacksonville's southside from 1979 until he sold the business to his son, George. Yet he never went far and continued to work with his son for many more years. He had a strong following of loyal customers and friends who enjoyed his fun, vibrant personality as much as the food he served. He was also a founding member of the Ramallah American Club of Jacksonville and a founding member and faithful parishioner of the St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 6300 Bowden Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32216, Thursday, October 27, 2016, with a Trisagion Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2016 at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 6300 Bowden Road, with the Very Reverend Archpriest, Father Kamal Al-Rahil, Pastor, officiating.
