Randolph Clyde Waddell Jr Obituary

Jan 04, 1947 - Aug 07, 2024

This obituary is administered by:

It is with heavy hearts, we announce that Randolph “Randy” Clyde Waddell Jr., 77, of Salem, VA, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2024.

He was born on January 4, 1947, in Greenup, KY, where he spent much of his childhood. He was the beloved son of Randolph Clyde Waddell Sr. and Mildred Lorena Fritz Brown.

Randolph proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, where he specialized in artillery during his deployment in Vietnam. His service and dedication to his country were a testament to his strength and character.

Later in life, Randolph moved to Salem, VA, where he married the love of his life, Norma Brown. They exchanged vows on May 24, 1995, at their favorite spot, Myrtle Beach, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Randolph, affectionately known as “Paw Paw,” was a man of many talents and interests. He was an avid fisherman, a passionate collector, and loved playing card games with friends. His love for Westerns, his talent as a carpenter, and his resourcefulness—duct tape being a favorite tool—were well-known among those who loved him. Animals gravitated towards him, earning him the title of a true “animal whisperer.” Paw Paw also enjoyed the classic tunes of 1950s rock and roll and country music, which filled his life with joy and nostalgia.

Paw Paw leaves behind a loving family and many cherished friends. He is survived by his children, Rebecca Brown, Robert Brown, Vicky Brown, Lynne Reynolds (husband Kevin Reynolds), Sherri Lawson, Suzette Hart, and Allen Waddell; his grandchildren, Katelynn Reynolds, Sydney Reynolds, Jordan Handley, Melanie Smith (Jeremy Smith), and Michelle Quesenberry (Tim Quesenberry); and his great-grandchildren, Lucas Hutchison, Matthew Burton III, Emory Handley, Tanner Handley, McKinley (MJ) Anderson, Madison Smith, Elizabeth Smith, Isabella Quesenberry, and Hayden Quesenberry. He is also survived by his grand-dog, Punkin; his sister-in-law, Carole Bays; niece, Elaine Bays Murphy (John Murphy); great-niece, Morgan Nichols (Dylan Nichols); and great-great-niece, Charlie Nichols, great-nephew Garrett Simpson (Lindsay Simpson).

Randolph is predeceased by his parents, Randolph Clyde Waddell Sr. and Mildred Lorena Fritz Brown; his special stepfather, Harry Brown Sr.; his beloved wife, Norma Brown Waddell; brother in law, Charles Bays; his grandparents, Curtis Fritz (Tippy) and Minnie Fritz; his brothers, Charles Waddell and Tommy Waddell; his godson, AJ Trovata; special friend, Chip Garman and Sheri Brown; and many aunts and uncles.

Paw Paw will be deeply missed by his special friends, Steve Hunter and Anne Moore, as well as his cherished pets, Missy and Bo.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the healthcare workers who cared for Paw Paw over the years. A special thanks to the staff at the Salem VA and VVCC, especially Dr. Stober, Dr. Lee, and the entire renal team. Deep gratitude also goes to the VA dialysis department staff and the Enhabit home health nurses, whose compassionate care allowed Paw Paw to remain comfortable at home. Your dedication and love for our dear Paw Paw will never be forgotten, and we appreciate you more than words can express.

A Celebration of Life for Randolph will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, for close friends and family.

Memorial contributions and floral arrangements may be sent to 1002 Carolina Ave, Salem, VA 24153.

Although we mourn his passing, we take comfort in knowing that Randolph is now reunited with his loved ones who have gone before him. May he rest in peace.
