1 / 1

Raymond A. Newman III, 74, of Ardmore departed this life in his home on August 14, 2024. Ray’s family and life-long friend, Marty Flynn, were at his side.

Ray was born in Washington, D.C. on June 6,1950 to Raymond A Newman II and Hazel Lorraine Simpson. He grew up in and around Falls Church, Virginia and graduated from George Marshall High School in 1969.

A product of the 60's, Ray loved music and could whistle any tune perfectly. His love of music led to him becoming an excellent drummer, a skill he honed while in a band known as "The 24 Hour Towing Service."

Ray served in the USMC, where he achieved the rank of staff sergeant, and traveled often. He called many places home, including Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C., Georgia, California and ultimately Oklahoma.

He and his wife, Sandi, were married in 1983. They had two children, Bonnie Colleen and Raymond IV. Through their 41 years of marriage, they remained best friends and confidants.

Ray was accomplished in several trades. Over the years, he held a variety of jobs with the last being at Michelin North America in Ardmore.

His life was made even brighter by his three grandchildren. He was a proud “Paw Paw"/"Paul"/”Pop Pop” to Derek Leggins, Maddox and Alexandra Newman.

Ray was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed watching crime shows and westerns.

Ray was preceded in death by his father, Raymond A. Newman II, his mother, Hazel Simpson, his step-mother, Charlotte Henderson, brother, Jimmy Newman, father-in-law, Duggie Pedigo, mother-in-law, Shirley Pedigo, brother-in-law, David Pedigo, and sister-in-law, Bobbi Pedigo.

He is survived by his wife, Sandi Newman, children, Bonnie Newman and Ray Newman IV, their spouses, Chris Lyon and Callie Newman, his grandchildren, loving brother-in-law, John Pedigo, brother Russell Newman and nephews, Kerry Graham and Ben Pedigo.

Ray will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, his country and will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
