Kohel, Raymond GeorgeRIO/MADISON- Raymond George Kohel, age 82, of Rio, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, at Columbia Health Care Center. He was born on May 26, 1935, in Marshfield, the son of George and Katherine (Simolke) Kohel. He married Karen Schueller, and they were married for 57 years. After living in Madison for many years, they built their dream home in Rio. Raymond and Karen spent many years traveling together, beginning in little campers at Indian Trails to driving to all of the states, including Hawaii, and a long trip through Europe. They also enjoyed playing cards and Yahtzee every morning. Raymond enjoyed bird watching, deer watching, hunting and watching his favorite tv shows. Raymond is survived by two sons, Brian D. (Danene Donahue) Kohel and Christopher Kohel; daughter, Kimberly (Troy) Hoeppner; three granddaughters, Glenna Lee (Chris Shuppe) Rodefer, Meggan Kohel and Jordon Kohel; two grandsons, Sean Carey and Ryan Kohel; great-granddaughter, Makenzie Louise Shuppe; three brothers-in-law, Steven (Sue) Schueller, Robert "Bobby" Schueller and Allen (Rose) Schueller; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives, including a special, niece, Lori (Dan) Franke; and many, many friends, including very special friends, Don and Dyanne Meicher. He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen, who he worshipped and dearly missed until the day he died; his parents; sister, Lorraine (Eldor) Wiersig; brother, Arnold "Arnie" Frank Kohel; and brother-in-law, Michael Schueller. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 1 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017.
