Raymond L. "Tuffy" Hoard 1925 - 2016Raymond L. "Tuffy" Hoard, 91, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday October 25, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center with Susan and Evelyn at his side. He was born on January 24, 1925 in Thomasville, Illinois to Edward and Josephine Smock Hoard. He married Dorothy Sanders on November 12, 1947 in Bloomington and she preceded him in death on October 21, 2016.Mr. Hoard is survived by one son David Hoard of Bradenton, Florida, one daughter Susan Hoard of Metairie, Louisiana, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his siblings: Marian Marsaglia, Lou Cummings, and Erma Fedor and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Cynthia Hoard, brothers Chet and Robert Hoard and three sisters: Margaret Dorsey, Loretta Cloyd, and Josphine Hemberger.Ray was a
US Navy Veteran serving in
World War II. He worked at Pillsbury for forty one years and then served as a crossing guard at Lawrence and Walnut streets. Raymond was a member of the
VFW, American Legion, and Trinity Lutheran Church and he enjoyed cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, gardening, growing tomatoes, and celebrating just under 69 years of marriage with his beloved wife Dorothy. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Linda Smith and Judy Hemberger for their support through Raymond and Dorothy's illnesses.A funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Monday October 31, 2016 at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen Street with burial to follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 9:00am until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
