Raymond Wayne Davis, Jr.Memphis, tnRaymond Wayne Davis, Jr. passed away peacefully on July 23, 2017, at the Methodist Hospice Residence after a short illness. He loved wood-working and created many things for his family and friends, including a Grandfather clock and a rocking chair for his granddaughter, Katie. Ray always had a cheerful smile and a kind word for everyone.Ray was born on January 7, 1925 to Raymond Wayne Davis, Sr. and Martha Llahmon Davis, both of whom predeceased him. He was the youngest of 7 children and the last surviving of his siblings. Ray left school after the 8th grade to help on his 321 acre family farm, until he entered the Army during World War II. Ray was captured by the German Army in Hatten, France, and was liberated at war's end. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and received a presidential citation from President Harry Truman acknowledging his sacrifices. Ray went on to work in the tire industry, ending his career as a shop manager for a Memphis tire company.Ray is survived by two daughters, Patricia Davis Neargarth (Lawrence) and Kathleen Davis Helwig, two grandchildren, Timothy Neargarth (Darla) and Tamitha Neargarth; four step-daughters, Diana Stanfill, Carol Claunch, Donna Fields, and Kathy Curtis, and a special step-granddaughter Katie Curtis and special friends Joe and Frances Yarbrough. A funeral service will be held at Memorial Park Mausoleum on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's
