Campbell, Regina Cynthia (Merzel) Regina passed away on August 26, 2017 in Spokane, WA. Regina was born on December 18, 1966 to Leonard and Patricia Merzel in Newark, NJ and moved to Arizona with her family when she was 5. Her parents divorced and Len remarried Shelly; Regina considered her a mother figure during her formative years. Her first job was at Dairy Queen where she started working "off the books" at age 14. She had great friends in Scottsdale High where she graduated in 1984. She put herself through dental assistant trade school and began working at County Health. It was then she started learning Spanish, starting with the words "No llores". She joined the Air Force in 1989; selected Honor Graduate in basic training and dental technician training. At her first assignment, she was welcomed with open arms into the military family and served as a "mother" figure to those in the barracks; she was often the voice of reason. She met Chris and they were married in March of 1992; shortly after they were reassigned to Germany. She and Chris traveled tremendously; their assignments included Washington DC, Germany, Louisiana, California, Wyoming, Arkansas, England and Spokane. The happiest day of her life was in December of 2000; Jakob was born and after that her motivation was about raising a respectful, spiritual young man that would improve the world. All of Jake's classmates knew "Mrs. Campbell"; she was a tireless volunteer and frequented his schools even more after she retired from the Air Force after 20 years of dutiful service. She was an avid crafter and spent countless hours making and sending things for her family as well as friends. She would scour thrift stores; not for herself but for friends and family and enjoyed giving unexpected gifts. Gardening was her therapy after retirement; in Arkansas, England and Spokane she always had one of the nicest flower gardens in the neighborhood. She loved to camp; as long as camping included a 40' 5th wheel with air conditioning or room service. Chris was her ball of clay that she saw a leader in; she was not shy about saying "If it wasn't for me he'd still be in black sneakers and concert t-shirts". They spent 25 glorious years married; regardless of where they were Regina always made their house a home. Her proudest accomplishment by far was Jakob; he has her sense of humor, smarts and motivation to make a difference in people's lives. She is survived by her husband Chris; son Jake; father Leonard; Aunt Paula; sisters Francine, Lauren, and Tara; brother Jeffrey; many loving cousins and nieces and nephews and is preceded in death by her Uncle Figgy. A Funeral Service will be take place at 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Assumption Parish, 3624 W Indian Trail Rd, Spokane, WA 99208.
