After valiantly battling her illness for ten months, God finally brought Renee into His loving arms in December of 2019. She was a wonderful wife and mother, whose kind heart and loving ways brought our family immeasurable happiness. She loved our three children deeply; she was incredibly devoted to them and always there for them. Nurturing. Caring. Loving. Supporting. Renee's was a beautiful spirit, one of positivity and encouragement and light. She devoted her life to her family and we're so fortunate to have had her loving presence in our lives. Our youngest daughter described her as "Sunshine wearing shoes"; such an accurate description.
Renee had the love and support of many close friends who will miss her, as will we, including her colleagues at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, an agency and job she loved so very much and at which she always strived to do her very best to be a stellar attorney.
An ardent animal lover and environmentalist, Renee cared for the weakest among us, supporting numerous humanitarian causes, as well as providing foster care to, and adopting, several shelter animals.
In accordance with Renee's wishes, final arrangements and services were small, informal, and private.
We are so grateful to the many family and friends who were kind enough to make a donation to the American Cancer Society on Renee's behalf. Know that your donation will help speed the arrival of a cure to this devastating disease.
Although Renee is no longer with us physically, she will always be with us in spirit, and we are so grateful to have had her as our loving wife and mother.
We thank you all for loving Renee and for supporting our family.
You can to the family or in memory of Renee McCray.

My dearest cousin, I miss you. I think of you daily and I know you're in the Lord's loving arms, but I miss you. I look back at passed emails we sent each other over the years, and I laugh, then I wish I had more time with you. I pray for your family to stay safe; I know you miss them. You are truly missed and never too far from my thoughts. Love Stephen

Renee, words can't describe how much I miss you. I miss our conversations and your unique ability to make me laugh about things that I completely forgot about. Just hearing from you always lifted my spirits and gave me a sense of belonging, YOU actually knew who I was, in and out. It's been a little over two years since you went home, but I think of you often and wish I could just talk to you... I know your fine, just wanted to tell you that your loved and missed. Love your little cousin, Stephen

I'm a member of Renee's women's group in Fairfax, and I remember several events together, including a tea at Greenspring and a lecture about flowers in women's fashions, and more than one movie afternoon that she sponsored. She was part of Debby Busse's group that traveled to Bethany Beach each spring, and I saw her at Debby's at many planning meetings. We met for brunch at Silver Diner, and I remember fondly her speaking about New York, and telling us about her trip to New York City with George last year where they attended the Met Opera and met friends. A truly lovely lady, and I so wish that she had accepted some visits from us, but she desired her privacy. The above photo shows what a lovely, beautiful woman she was, but you can't see from it, though you may have guessed, what a lovely person she was inside too. We will miss you BUNCHES sweetie. I was surprised and saddened at the news of Renees transition. Renee was a member and/or supporter of the Caribbean Intellectual Property Association (CIPA), an Affinity Group at her last employer, the USPTO (PTO). I am the current 2019 CIPA President and met her briefly when she came to my Office to purchase tickets for our December 2018 Holiday event. At that event, I also sat at her table and conversed with her and her daughter. I recall even dancing with her and another party attendee/CIPA member at the event. She reminisced about another CIPA event and said that CIPA events were the best events at the PTO. I found Renee to be friendly and vibrant. On behalf of our CIPA family, I wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones. She will surely be missed! ~ Hayden B.

I can't believe she's gone. In addition to being next-door neighbors, Renee and I had a book club together for about thirteen years. She was one of the most avid members, rarely missing a monthly meeting, as she loved to read and talk about good books. I have some photos from those events I'd love to share with her family, as well as a book list she kept. She loved her family so much. To her children I want to say that she gave them a great gift- each other. Renee told me that because she had been an only child, she really wanted her children to have siblings, and that was one of her gifts to them. Now I imagine they are a comfort to one another and to their father, George. I'll always remember Renee's love of books and learning as well as her delight in animals of all kinds - from hamsters to snakes! Oh and she loved New York! I'll never forget her smile. Love and comfort to her family.

Thank you, Suzanne, for the lovely comment and photos. Just today, I found Renees book diary. Number of books she read from 1995 to 2019: 202! All while raising 3 kids and working full time. She was always a voracious reader, but that number surprised even me!
