Reubin AlcoyDes MoinesReubin Gabriel Alcoy was born on August 3, 1999 in Des Moines, Iowa to Mervyn and Lilibeth Alcoy. Reubin was a senior at Dowling Catholic High School. He played the trumpet and was a section leader in the Marching Band. He was also a member of the Dowling choir and the National Honor Society. He sang in the church choir and was taking advanced placement classes. Since middle school he was in choir and on the mock trial team. He became president of the student council and participated in track and field competition. He was a good leader, motivator, funny and full of life. Some of his friends called him 'Superman' because he tended to do tasks beyond expectation. There was never a dull moment when 'Ruby' was around. He had great jokes, amusing stories to tell, and inspirational words to share.He passed away at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics at the age of 17 after a courageous battle with brain cancer since October 2015.He is survived by his mother, Lilibeth M. Alcoy; grandparents, Tony and Perla (Fernandez) Alcoy; grandmother, Lilia Mamon; uncles, Rey (Marissa) Mamon, Henry (Grace Hollie) Mamon, and John (Josie) Mamon; aunts, Anna Alcoy and Mia (Roland) Banta; great aunt, Maria Alcoy; cousins, Ron Banta, Raphael Banta, Luke Anthony Flores, Hannah Gail (Chris) Wong, Chris Mamon, Jane Mamon, Ivy Anne Mamon, Luigi Mamon, Joanna Mamon, and James Mamon.He was preceded in death by his father, Mervyn Alcoy; grandfather, Albino Mamon; and great aunt, Filipinas Espanola. A rosary service will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at St. Joseph Chapel at Dowling Catholic High School, 1400 Buffalo Road, West Des Moines. Visitation will follow from 4:30 to 7:00 PM with a vigil starting at 7:00 PM. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, January 13, 2017 at Dowling Catholic High School gymnasium. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines. Memorial contributions may be given to Dowling Catholic High School Band. Online condolences may be expressed at
