Rex Eugene PutmanRobert LeeRex Eugene Putman went to be with the Lord on Feb.17, 2017, at his home in Robert Lee, Texas. There will be a celebration service at the First United Methodist Church in Robert Lee on Feb. 23, 2017, at 11 a.m. He will be laid to rest beside his wife in Snyder Cemetery, Snyder, Texas. Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home.Rex was born on Oct. 23, 1930, in Onondaga, New York to Chester and Emma Putman. Rex was drafted into the United States Army in March 1951. He was self-employed as a Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic. He was well known for his knowledge of a diesel engine and could diagnose problems just by hearing the machine. Dad cherished and loved his family unconditionally. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Robert Lee, Texas. Dad fell in love with each and every person in the church. He was very fond of Pastor Cyndi and her love for the Lord. The most precious thing to him the last two years was his granddog Tyson "Bozo" who was his co-pilot twice a day. He loved helping out Ms. T's with her floral deliveries. He was always eager and ready to go when she called.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorthy Putman; three brothers, Chet, Jim and Bud Putman; and one sister, Betty Putman; one stepdaughter, Gala Sanchez; three stepsons, Boogie, James and Bobbie Joe Sanders.Dad is survived by his brother, Skip Putman of New York; sister, Emma Norris and husband Bruce of New York; daughter, Melanie Calder-Remy and husband Gene of San Marcos, Texas; son, Rex A. Putman and wife Jody of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Eugenia Moran and husband Jason of Robert Lee, Texas; stepson, Billy Wayne Sanders and wife Yvonne of Albany, Texas; step-daughter, Paula Burchard of San Angelo, Texas; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, niece, nephews and extended family.The family requests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church in Robert Lee, Texas.Online condolences may be made at
