PRESTON - Rex Tibbetts Fuhriman, 87, passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, from pneumonia at Logan Regional Hospital in Logan, Utah. His family was grateful to be at his side at the time of his passing. Rex was born on Dec. 11, 1923, in Providence, Utah, to Norman Wesley and Elva Tibbetts Fuhriman. Rex attended South Cache High School, graduating in 1941. After attending Utah State for one year, Rex enlisted in the
U.S. Air Force during
World War II. During this time, Rex married his high school sweetheart, Elaine Nelson in Brady, Texas, on Sept. 30, 1944. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on May 31, 1945. Shortly after graduation from the Air Force Academy, the war ended. He returned to Utah State where he graduated with a degree in business. While getting his degree he also worked on the family dry farm in Pocatello Valley.At the young age of 24, Rex's father passed away leaving him to run Fuhriman Implement Company, the family business. Rex and Elaine later moved to Bakersfield, Calif., where he opened his own real estate business. After several years they returned to Cache Valley where he opened Fuhriman Realty. Rex was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he especially enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts. Rex was an avid golfer and was a member of the Logan Golf and Country Club for many years and enjoyed serving on the Board of Directors for a short time. He also served on the Utah Seniors Golf Board. He was a long time member of the Logan
Rotary Club and was also honored to serve on the Judiciary Council of the State of Utah. During these years, Rex made many lasting friendships which he always treasured.His pride and joy was his family. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Preston; two sons and two daughters, Craig (Kathleen) Fuhriman, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kathy (Don) Williams, of Denver, Colo., Robert Fuhriman, of Orem, Utah, and Shaunna Fuhriman, of Preston; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marie (Blaine - deceased) Olsen and Ranae (Pete) Burningham. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Wesley, and sister, Geraldine (Bob - deceased) Perkes.Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the Preston 8th Ward LDS chapel, 213 S. 200 East, Preston, with Bishop Randy Wakley conducting. A viewing will be held Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home's new location, 1005 S. 800 East, Preston, and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
