Richard A. "Rick" Wascak, 65, of Greenway Court, Manassas, Va., died on November 21, 2016, at Sentara Medical Center, Woodbridge, Va. He was born on February 11, 1951, in Corry, Pa., a son of John E. and Elizabeth M. Stolar Wascak. Rick was raised and educated in Corry, graduating from Corry Area High School in 1969. He then graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Westminister College in 1973. He moved to Virginia following college and had lived in Manassas for the past thirty years. He began his accounting career with a few of the big ten accounting firms in Washington, D.C. Rick then worked for over twenty-seven years for the Federal Government at various agencies, with the last seventeen years at the Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board, where he retired in March 2008 as Assistant Director. Rick's priorities were his family and being involved with as many of their activities as possible. He loved being outdoors and caring for his dogs. He was an avid reader and loved sports, especially the New York Yankees and Cleveland Browns. Rick was preceded in death by a sister Susan Wascak; and two brothers Thomas and John Wascak. In addition to his parents, Rick is survived by his wife Joan E. Fillers Wascak, whom he married on March 2, 1974, in Sharon, Pa; a daughter Megan Wascak and her fiancé Aaron of Manassas, Va.; a son Matthew Wascak of Ashburn, Va.; and a sister Carol Huffman and her husband Darrell of Erie, Pa. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Family and friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home, Inc., 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., with a Prayer Vigil for the Deceased at 7:30 p.m. Prayers for the transfer of the body to church will be held at Bracken Funeral Home on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 203 W. Washington St., Corry, Pa., on Saturday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Mark Hoffman of St. Thomas/(St. Elizabeth), presiding. Burial is to follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Corry, Pa.
