Waterford - Richard A. "Dick" Scarpa, 71, of Waterford, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, at Yale New Haven Hospital.He was born on June 11, 1945, in New London to Frank Scarpa and Josephine (Palmieri) Scarpa.A Waterford High School graduate, Dick married Joyce (Douchette) Scarpa on May 27, 1967, in New London. Together they raised two children, Richie and Kim.He retired from Electric Boat as pipe fitter supervisor with many dedicated years of service.Dick was generous as a volunteer for the Cohanzie Fire Department and for Little League baseball as an assistant coach for Richie's teams. He enjoyed the outdoors during his hunting outings or on the links playing golf. Dick always found joy to be with his family, especially his wife, children and grandchildren.Besides his wife, Joyce, he is survived by son, Richard Scarpa and his wife, Jennifer; daughter, Kim Barboza and her partner, Scott Waters; former son-in-law, Erik Barboza; and 5 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kelsey, Anthony, Raven and Jack.He was predeceased by brother, Greg Scarpa; and sister, Sandra Ferendo.A memorial visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London.
