Richard Sinclair White, Sr., 94 years of age, made his peaceful transition from this life to his heavenly home on October 10th,2024 at his residence in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He was born in Milboro, Virginia to the late Wesley and Alma (Lewis) White. He was married for 46 years to the late Helen Pridgen.
Richard was a World War Il Army Veteran and served in the United States Army from 1944-1946. After his discharge he was employed at the Imperial Colliery Coal Company in Burnwell, West Virginia from 1947-1959. While in West Virginia he united with the Bethel Baptist Church in Burnwell, West Virginia where he was the Sunday School Superintendent, President of the District Sunday School Convention and a member of the Mt. Olivet Ministers and Deacons Union.
After relocating his family to Carlisle, Pennsylvania he worked at the Dauphin Deposit Bank from 1959 to 1977. He became a devoted member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where he served as the Chairman of the Deacon Board, Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School and the church custodian for more than 50 years. He was instrumental in helping with the Saturday Prayer Breakfast and also started feeding the homeless once a week at the church. He was a member of the Carlisle School District Advisory Committee, served as treasurer for the Carlisle O.I.C., President of the Carlisle Local Action Council and was on the board of the Carlisle YMCA for two terms.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Helen White; son, Richard White, Jr,; great-grandson, Andre White; Jr,; four brothers: Charles White, James White, Andrew Canada, Johnnie Mitchell; five sisters: Dorothy Younger, Corline Harper, Gladys Mathies, Helen Blackstock and Karolyn Murray•
He leaves to cherish his memory, daughter; Patricia Ewell, son Benjamin White (Cathy), daughter; Angelyn Jackson. Grandchildren: C. Sidney Ewell, Todd Ewell, Andre White Sr. (Getia), Dawn Jones (Ali), Evan White (Shanean) Alison White; brother-in-law: Thomas Murray, Sr. (Montgomery, WV), 20 great grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren and a special friend; Juanita Day.
Richard White, "G-Dad", Dad, Uncle, Deacon White, will forever be remembered for his love of God and love for his family. We thank God for lending him to us for the past 94 years!!
