CARR, Richard H.Richard Hanson Carr, 92, of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan died Tuesday, November 7, 2017, following a brief illness. Mr. Carr was born on April 22, 1925 in Windsor, Ontario to Ernest and Ruth Bowers Carr. As a child of U.S. born parents he held dual citizenship. He was a
World War II veteran, serving in the U.S.
Army as a medic from 1943 to 1946 in the European Theater, including Germany, France and Belgium. Upon discharge from the Armed Services, Mr. Carr attended the
University of Michigan graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1952 he obtained his MBA from the University of Western Ontario. In 1952, Mr. Carr was hired by the Canadian Diesel Division of
General Motors and was transferred to GM-USA in 1960. He held various positions in labour relations and personnel, retiring in 1990 as Director of Personnel Administration for Service Parts Operations. Mr. Carr was a life- member and past president of Essex Golf & Country Club in Windsor, Ontario; past director of the Association of Golf Presidents and served as Deacon and Usher at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church. Mr. Carr was the husband of the late Shirley G. Carr (nee Campbell) whom he married on July 7, 1959. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Robert B. Carr, and sisters Ruth McDowell and Joan Farmer. He is survived by his daughter, Catherine (John H. Mecke IV), of Irvington, VA, his son, Robert, of Birmingham, MI, and three grandchildren John, William and Molly Mecke, as well as many nieces and nephews. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
