No farewell words were spoken, no time to say good-bye, you were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why. …Richard Earl Colwell, 72, of Nichols, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016. Dick was born on Feb. 25, 1944 in Sayre, Pa., a son of the late Edwin and Ruth (Coleman) Colwell. He was a graduate of Athens High School class of 1962. Following high school, Dick worked on the family farm and then for Ingersoll Rand. In 1967, he started his career with IBM and there he worked for 11 years. His greatest love was being a truck driver as an owner/operator and working for various companies such as Schneider Bulk Lines, Gray and Gray Trucking, Agway, and he retired from Agway Suburban-Propane in 2009. Dick enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, family trips to the cottage at Sandy Pond, the monthly cousins' luncheons and being among friends.He will be greatly missed by his wife, Carol (Rosenberger) Colwell; his children, Gary (Lori) Colwell of Candor, N.Y., Tracey (Mike) Friedrichsen of Nichols, N.Y., Robin (Eric) Moeller of Round Rock, Texas, Brenda (Chris) Parsons of Austin, Texas, Christina (Chuck) Sweeny of Warren, Va., and Lynne Murphy of Fairport, N.Y.; his sisters, Jeannette (John) Overpeck of Canton, Pa., and Cindy (Warren) Dittfield of Salisbury, Md.; his brothers-in-law, Alvin (Carol) Rosenberger of Athens, Pa., Buck (Martha) Field of Towanda, Pa., and Bill (Betsey) Field of Gillett, Pa.; his sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Larry) Simons of Thomasville, N.C., and Patricia Coleman of Towanda, Pa.; 11 grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, among them Ken Coleman and Rick Young. He was predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Ruth Colwell, and his wife, Jeanne Field Colwell on Oct. 26, 1999.Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25 at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26 at the funeral chapel with Pastor MaryJean Simonin officiating.
