BUTLER — Richard E. "Dick" Frakes, 91, died Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla. Dick was born on December 3, 1924 in Butler to the late Benjamin M. and Mae M. (Marsh) Frakes. He attended Butler High School, graduating in 1943. He worked for I & M Electric for 44 years, retiring in 1990. He started out as a meter reader then a lineman and finally as a troubleshooter before retiring. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Janet D. (Blaine) Frakes on April 5, 1952 in Fremont and she survives. He was a member of the Butler American Legion Post 202, a life member of the Kendallville VFW Post 2749 and a member of the 70th Infantry Division Association. He loved fishing, pontooning on Hamilton Lake and being with his family and friends. Surviving are four daughters, Nanette (Dan) Riggs of Marcellus, Michigan, Sharon (Bob) Christlieb of Fort Wayne, Karen (Adam) Staley of Butler and Leigh Ann (Steven) Mayer of Butler. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and a brother, Wayne T. Frakes of Woodstock, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles V. Frakes. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2016 at H.E. Johnson & Sons Funeral Homes, 212 N. Broadway, Butler, with visitation from 1-2 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home. Pastor Kenji Harrington of Bethany Baptist Church in Carthage, Missouri, officiating. Burial will take place in the Butler Cemetery with military honors conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the Butler American Legion and Kendallville VFW. Visitation will be on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Butler American Legion Post 202, Kendallville VFW Post 2749 or 70th Infantry Division Association, in care of Beth Evans, 11058 Harney St., Omaha, NE 68754.
