On September 08, 2017, Richard (Dick) F. Venters passed away peacefully at the Aristocrat Memory Care in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He was born on May 04, 1943 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Francis and Agnes (Knapik) Venters. As a geologist, he was a avid caver and member of the national Cave Research Foundation since 1975. He helped map out and conduct research on such projects as the Fort Stanton Cave Snowy River project at Fort Stanton, NM, and the Lechuguilla Cave exploration project in Carlsbad, NM. He was also a 24 year Air Force Veteran, serving in both the regular and Air National Guard in Albuquerque, NM. Survivors include his sister, Patricia A. Shipman, and brother-in-law, Thomas O. Shipman of La Luz, NM. He was proceeded in death by his father, Francis L. Venters, and mother, Agnes C. Venters. Memorial services for Richard will be held at the Our Lady of Light Catholic Church in La Luz, NM, Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM, with Father Theo Okador presiding. A Rosary will proceed this service at 10:30 AM. A reception lunch will immediately follow. Graveside Burial services will be conducted at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 11:15 AM.
