Richard Gene Wyma Obituary

Sep 28, 1927 - Oct 14, 2024

This obituary is administered by:

Richard Wyma passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024, at the age of 97 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was born on September 28, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to Michael and Agnes Wyma.

Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lucille, in 2011. Together, they raised six children: Steve and spouse Mary, Dan and spouse Pam, Cheralyn and spouse Mike, Connie, Rick and spouse Brenda, and Jon and spouse Kay. He was also a cherished grandfather to 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. In 2013, Richard married Mary Jane (a dear friend of the Wyma family), who was a wonderful companion for the last 11 years.

Richard dedicated over 50 years of his life to missionary work with New Tribes Mission in Bolivia, South America. His lifelong passion was sharing the Gospel that “God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). The love of Jesus Christ was the driving force of Richard’s whole life. He later wrote, "Like the merchant who found the pearl and went and sold all he had to purchase this treasure... I felt like it would be so foolish to not give my life totally to Him, who is the most wonderful of treasures."

Richard will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He enjoyed deep, meaningful conversation over a cup of extra sweet café con leche. His kind and humble spirit, unwavering faith, listening ear, and constant encouragement will be remembered fondly by those whose lives he touched.

Dick was always so fun to talk with every time I was able to visit. When he first started struggling with stability I brought him a roll around walker that you could also sit it. He was so excited and talked me many times. Dick and Mary Jane were always so welcoming and great hosts when I would visit. I will greatly miss out talks until we meet in Heaven. Blessings to the family. bill

One of the most godly men we have known. Dick and Lucille have been wonderful friends to my parents Bill and Gloria Kornfield, and to our Tom and Kathy Kornfield/Sutherland family. His sweet friendship, good letters. sincere words of encouragement and prayers have made a special and significant difference in our lives. We are so thankful for this dear family represented and for Mike and Cherilyn whom we've enjoyed so much now for many years! We thank God for Dick and the legacy he has left and will pray for his family in these days.

I have nothing but great memories of this great man and his family. Always an encouragement to our family. He is a picture of grace and love and will be remembered for being a huge part of the Nacional Evangelical Work, OEN. When I was a child, he did my mom a big favor. My dad was traveling and she was to sick to punish me. She asked hermano Dick to give me a spanking and when it was over, my mom made me say thank you for the whipping. But even then, when don Ricardo said that it would hurt him more than me. It was the only spanking that I felt it was probably true. Thank you for all you have done to make a difference and your love for Bolivia and mostly your love for the Lord.
