Richard "Sam" Gilmore, 81, Monticello, passed away at 1:55 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at Lakeview Village.He was born on April 27, 1935, in Monticello, to the late Albert "Bert" and Olive (Bowen) Gilmore. On Aug. 20, 1955, he married Joan "Sally" Himbert in Monticello and she survives.Sam attended Monticello schools and served in the Army National Guard. He worked at the old RCA Plant for 31 years in the finishing department. He later worked at Indiana Beach as a security guard at the Campground and also as a ticket taker at the Game Barn. Sam was a passionate fisherman and his love of fishing began when he was a child. Many will remember him as "Catfish Sam". In addition to his wife, Joan "Sally", he is also survived by daughters, Carla (John) Clifford, Pauline, S.C. and Angie (Jason) Felger, Fort Wayne; and granddaughters, Bailey and Megan Felger.Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral services celebrating Sam's life at 1 p.m. Monday at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Pastor Gary Roberts of Grace Community Baptist Church will officiate services.
