Richard Hosie Barker, Sr. of Yuma passed away on December 16, 2012 at Yuma Regional Medical Center. He was born on June 26, 1935 to the late Charles Wilford Barker and Marie Hosie Barker.A native of Jamestown, New York, he attended Jamestown High School, Case Institute of Technology of Cleveland, Orange Coast College of Costa Mesa, California, and the University of San Francisco. He was a proud member of the Marine Corps during the
Korean War era. After his service, he worked for Allis-Chalmers Construction Equipment for eight years as a sales representative in the mid-west and Northern California. In 1965 he joined Xerox Corp on staff in San Francisco and from there was promoted to Rochester, New York and became manager of their National Consulting Service. For years, Richard was active in the Masonic Order, Shriners and Scottish Rite.He and his wife, Wendy Kay (Brown) Barker met in high school, then dated for three years during his Marine tour and married in 1956. They had three children; Richard, Jr. of Idyllwild, California; Bradley (who pre-deceased him in 2005); and Julia of Orange, California; nine grandchildren, one great-grandson. Richard has an aunt, Rachel Miller of Big Bear City, California. He was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Bridenbaker of Allegany, New York.Richard had a brilliant and creative mind and was always looking for new challenges and adventures. He loved traveling extensively. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.A private celebration of life will be held with his family in California.
