Richard J. RisbeckCharitonRichard James Risbeck, age 84, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2017. peacefully, surrounded by his family at the Legacy Lodge Hospice in Chariton. Richard was born on December 8, 1932, on a farm south of Chariton, Iowa, son of Milton John and Janie Belle (Clendenen) Risbeck. He received his education from the Freedom Rural School and graduated from Chariton High School with the class of 1951. He served in the
Army in Germany during the
Korean conflict and received an Honorable Discharge in 1955. On July 23, 1953 he was united in marriage to Wanda Irene Lewis and to this union, three sons were born, Greg, Kent and Jeff. They made their home on an acreage in West Des Moines for 35 years where they raised their family. Richard was employed for 40 years as a draftsman and project engineer for the Waldinger Corporation in Des Moines. He retired in 1994 and he and Wanda moved to their farm south of Chariton. They enjoyed dancing at local dances and jam sessions, traveling and cruising. Richard was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, planting trees and wild life foodplots and maintaining wetlands on their farm. He was a member of Local 45 Sheet Metal Workers Union and the First United Methodist Church in Chariton. Richard is survived by his wife, Wanda, of 64 years, his three sons, Greg & Diana Risbeck of Chariton, Kent & Robin Risbeck of Norwalk and Jeff & Nancy Risbeck of Guntersville, Alabama. Six Granddaughters, 6 step grandchildren, six great grandchildren, 16 step great grandchildren, one brother, Arlan & wife Dixie Risbeck, of Russell, IA, one nephew and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister and sister Donna Irvin. The family will greet friends Saturday, September 2, 2017 from 9:00 A.M. until 11 :00 A.M. with the Memorial Service following at 11 :00 A.M. at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton. Burial will be in the Chariton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials 'may be directed in loving memory of Richard to the First United Methodist Church in Chariton, Iowa.
