Richard Russell McConnellWEST LAFAYETTE: Richard Russell McConnell, age 75, of West Lafayette, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at his home, surrounded by family, after a long battle with cancer. He was born on December 25, 1941 to the late Richard and Gladys (Henderson) McConnell in Coshocton County. On June 30, 1963, he married his greatest love and joy, Beverly (Lowe) McConnell who survives. Richard was the founder and owner of McConnell Contracting, Inc., operating a successful heavy highway construction business for over 50 years, creating many new roads, bridges, and most importantly wonderful relationships.He was a creator of many wonderful things, and nature was one of his greatest inspirations in life. He enjoyed traveling, collecting antique toys, cars, reading, and racing. Richard enjoyed many things in life, especially his children and grandchildren.Richard was a member of the West Lafayette United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the West Lafayette Masonic Lodge #602, the Knights Templar of Coshocton, Grand Council Royal & Select Masons of Ohio Coshocton Council #110, and the Scottish Rites Valle of Cambridge. He is survived by his wife Beverly of 53 years; two sons, Trevor (Dorothy) McConnell of Wooster and Travis (Rhonda) McConnell of West Lafayette; and four grandchildren, Dylan, Haley, Colin, and Brianna. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017, at Given-Dawson Funeral Home from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm with Masonic Service beginning at 6:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 at 11:00 am at Given-Dawson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery.
