Richard MeschRichard G. Mesch, 84, passed away at home peacefully on November 12, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 30, 1933 to Daniel and Clara (Becker) Mesch in Denver, Colorado, where he lived until he joined the
United States Navy as a young man of 18 as an aircraft mechanic. On July 26, 1958, he married Gladys Louise Hanson and the two raised a family of four during their marriage of 50 years. Over the course of his career in the Navy, Richard and Gladys lived in Denver, CO, Olathe, KS and Alameda, CA until his retirement in 1970. In 1974, they made Sioux Fall, SD their home, where Richard worked at National College, which later became Huron University, until he retired. As a hobby, he continued to be a mechanic and also worked with inmates during their incarceration and upon their release through the Crossroads ministry. Grateful for having shared his life are his four children, Belinda (Steve) Broadus, Mark (Sherilyn) Mesch, Brian (Joni) Mesch and Kimberly (Steve) Hegdahl; six grandchildren, Elise Broadus, Brittany Broadus, Tabitha Brady, Lindsay Cruz, Hannah Hegdahl, Braxtyn Mesch and Jalyn Mesch; five great-grandchildren, Conner Broadus, Isla Cruz, Willow Broadus; Autumn Myers and Hudson Myers; two brothers, James Mesch of CO and Freddie (Patricia) Mesch of VA; one brother-in-law Harold Simkins; three sister-in-laws, Ruby Hanson, Esther Nelson and her husband Charles and Meredith Ann Mesch of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ralph Mesch and his loving wife Gladys Mesch. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 10:30 am at Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm on Thursday at Heritage Funeral Home with family present.
