ST. JOE — Richard Lee Roberts, age 88, of St. Joe passed away on July 3, 2016, at Laurels of DeKalb Nursing Home in Butler. Mr. Roberts was born on June 13, 1928 in Hicksville, Ohio, to Floyd and Agatha (Coburn) Roberts. He married Paula J. Hartz on April 22, 1950, in Angola. She resides in St. Joe. Mr. Roberts honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He worked at International Harvester in Fort Wayne for 30 years, retiring in 1974. He became the youngest person to ever retire from International Harvester at the time. He started working when he was 16 and he retired at the age of 46. After retiring from Harvester, he worked for many years on the Bruce Laub farm in Spencerville. Mr. Roberts was a former member of the Coburn Corners Church of Christ, the Butler American Legion Post 202, Bass Masters, and he was a founding member of the St. Joe Conservation Club. He served on the St. Joe Volunteer Fire Department, the St. Joe Town Board and served as president of the St. Joe Little League. He also enjoyed pitching horseshoes. Survivors include his wife, Paula Roberts of St. Joe; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard Floyd Roberts of St. Joe and Paul Douglas and Sherry Roberts of St. Joe; a daughter and son-in-law, Loxie Lee and Tim Kees of Auburn; his Christian son, Lynn Hart of Butler; nine grandchildren, Shayna Stucky, Samuel Lee Kees, Nicolas E. Kees, Richard Lee Roberts Jr., Kera Lenae Velazquez, Jessica Flater, Jeremy Hart, Amy Ullom and Arika Hart; 14 great-grandchildren; two half sisters, Glenda Sanchez of Butler and Sue McKean of Butler; a half brother, Tom Wasson of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dorothy Jean Cook; a sister, Jessie May Haifley; and a half brother, Harold Wasson. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 8, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 S. Center St. in Auburn. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016, from 3-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday. Officiating will be Pastor Lynn Hart. Burial with military honors will take place at Riverview Cemetery in Newville. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.fellerandclark.com.
