Richard S. "Rick" MelsonAGE: 68 • Wilmington, DERichard "Rick" S. Melson, 68, passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 30, 2017. Rick was born on May 30, 1949 in Wilmington, Delaware. He has owned and managed Captain's Catch Seafood with his wife Barbara for over thirty five years. He was a hard-working man who took such care and pride in picking out only the best seafood and preparing the best products. Before opening Captain's Catch Seafood, Rick was a chemist at ICI Americas. He attended the University of Houston. Rick had a great passion and respect for this County. He lived for his family, friends and employees past and present always helping anyone in their time of need. His humor entertained his family, life-long friends, crabbers and business associates. He loved early morning walks on the beach with his beloved dog Brodie. Rick was a great father and grandfather and cherished every moment with his daughter, Rebecca and granddaughter, Sylvie. They were his world as he was theirs. Rick is the son of the late Levin A. and Shirley C. Melson. He is survived by his wife Barbara of 37 years, daughter, Rebecca Montgomery, granddaughter, Sylvie Grace Montgomery, brother, John A. Melson, sister, Susan Melson Ivey (Mark) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Gwen Elizabeth Montgomery.His visitation will be held at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 5:00 pm- 7:00 pm where his funeral will take place on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 10:00 am.
