Our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and "Uncle Richard" passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, in Logan, Utah. Richard Terrell Ballif was born on Jan. 13, 1928, in Preston, Idaho. His parents, Serge Chadwick and Ina Terrell Wilcox Ballif, welcomed him into a family that would eventually include four boys and four girls. Richard served his country in the occupation forces in the 11th Airborne in Japan. He attended USAC when he returned home. It was at the family farm in Winder, Idaho, that he met his sweetheart and eternal companion, Sara Swainston. They were married July 27, 1948, in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. They had two sons Dennis Robert and William Laurence. They family spend many happy years together dairying and farming in Winder. Dad was a faithful member of the LDS Church. He served in several bishoprics and on the high council. He loved his calling in the nursery and particularly enjoyed serving with his wife, Sara, in the Logan Temple, which he considered the "frosting on the cake." He loved his family and is survived by wife, Sara, his sons Dennis (Janeen) Ballif, and William (Lynne) Ballif, 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, sisters Joanne Cottrell and Ina Rae Knighton. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lyman, David, Don, and sisters Yvonne Knighton and Florine Durham.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, in the Preston 10th Ward LDS Chapel, 155 N. 200 West in Preston. A viewing will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Sunday at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 S. 800 East in Preston and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Interment will be in the Whitney Cemetery.
