Thurk, RichardRichard W. Thurk, age 92, Sugar Bush, passed away on Tuesday, February 07, 2017, at Bethel Home, Oshkosh. He was born on January 4, 1925, in Fremont, son of the late William and Ida (Heyer) Thurk. Dick served his country in the US Army during
WWII and was a
Purple Heart recipient. He was united in marriage on June 28, 1946, to Lois Linberg in Sugar Bush. Together they owned and operated Thurk's Tavern in Sugar Bush for 33 years. Dick is survived by his wife Lois; children: Nancy (David) Schwartz, Oshkosh; Pamela (John) Swinford, Oshkosh; Jack Thurk (special friend, Cathy), New London; daughter in-law, Karen Hilker, Green Bay; grandchildren: Danna (Chris) Carpenter; Richard Schwartz; Jeff (Dana) Schwartz; Michael Schreiber; John (Kimberly) Swinford Jr.; fourteen great-grandchildren: Jacob, Emma, Kiera, Courtney, Kien, Kaelen, Cooper, Conlan, Nicholas, Amber, Dray, Cole, Tre, and Savannah; two great-great-grandchildren, Kylie and Arion; special person, Robin Schwartz. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and three foster great-granddaughters.He was preceded in death by his parents; a son James; four brothers: Melvin, Wilbert, William and Robert; two sisters, Goldie and Mabel and a stillborn grandson.Funeral services for Dick will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sugar Bush with Rev. Preston Heuer officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the New Maple Creek Cemetery.
