LAGRANGE — Richard T. White, 85, of LaGrange died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, at Life Care Center of LaGrange. Mr. White was a machinist at Thompson-Smith in Hamlet and at Grumman-Olson in Sturgis, Michigan. He moved to LaGrange from Plymouth in 1986. Mr. White was a U.S. Navy veteran serving his country during the Korean War. He was a member of the LaGrange American Legion Post 215. He was born on April 12, 1930, in LaPorte to Robert R. and Helen (Sisk) White. On May 13, 1979, he married Joan J. Newcomer in LaGrange. She survives him in LaGrange. Also surviving is a daughter, Rhonda (Mike) Edmund of Kansas; four sons, Stephen (Janet) White and Scott (Bonnie) White, both of Warsaw, Richard A. (Carolyn) White of Kendallville and James (Michelle) White of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; two stepdaughters, Doreen (David) Covey of Wolcottville and Connie Campbell of Colon, Michigan; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, Walter (Sandy) Phillips of Yelm, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert White. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Frurip-May Funeral Home, 309 W. Michigan St. LaGrange, with the Rev. Carldean Merrifield officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Saturday prior to the funeral.
