This obituary is administered by:
BUSTERRobert A. Buster passed away on May 7, 2017 in Ft. Myers, Florida. He was born on September 4, 1932 in Creelsboro, Kentucky (Russell County) a place he oft said, "there's no way to get there, you had to be born there." He relished that his childhood world was still the 19th Century "horse-and-buggy" era, that he attended a one room schoolhouse in this remote genteel community peopled with descendants still living on their forebears' Revolutionary War Land Grant farms. Bob served in the U.S. Air Force in Okinawa (1951 - 55), attaining S/Sgt rank. He attended Lindsey Wilson College (Columbia, KY), receiving his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from the University of Kentucky, proud to be a UK Wildcats Basketball fan. In 1958, Bob moved, with his young family, to Cincinnati, Ohio, to teach US and World History at Sycamore High School in Blue Ash. During his 25 years there, he became Asst. Superintendent, facilitating the rise of the Sycamore Township School System to city, state and national prominence. Bob moved to Ft. Myers, Florida in 2001. A passionate bridge player, he achieved the Ruby Life Master rank in the American Contract Bridge League. He mentored world-class player Kevin Dwyer as a young teen. Together they represented Southern Florida in national ACBL competition. He was named a Kentucky Colonel by Gov. Edward T. Breathitt. A renown raconteur, Bob was a historian, and current affairs polemicist. He is survived by his daughter, Bobette Buster, (Los Angeles), son, Eric Ocean (Clearwater), Eric's wife, Melissa, Bob's sister, Margie B. Whitaker (Lexington), and her son, Mark Hutchens and his family (Lexington). Two sons pre-deceased him: Lowell (d. 1988, Los Angeles) and Charles (d. 1995, London, England) In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations can be made to www.caroleco.org/donate/networkforgood - In Memory of Robert A. Buster.
