Robert C GreeneRobert Calvin Greene, 83, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, from smoke inhalation, the result of a fire at their home in Lewiston.He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marjory Maxine (Hodson) Greene; son, Robert L. Greene and his wife, Ramona, Ellensburg, Wash., son, David James Greene and his wife, Deborah, Chino Hills, Calif.; daughter, Sandra Maxine May and her husband, Jerry, Sandy, Ore. son, Mark Lynn Greene and his wife, Susie, Asotin, and a sister, Ruth Harriet Osler, Lupton, Colo. Robert and Marjory have 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and two more soon to be born.Robert was born on July 1, 1931, in Ansley, Neb., to Emma Callie (May) Greene and WiIIlam Reece Greene. In his early years he lived in Taylor, Neb. with his brother, James (Earl) Greene and graduated from Loup County High School in 1950. Shortly after graduation he joined the U.S. Navy. Yeoman 1st Class, stationed on the USS Norfolk and served four years. While on leave, he married Marjory Hodson on Aug. 8, 1951, in the living room of Marjory's parents in Taylor.After completing his Naval duty, he used the GI Bill to attend Nebraska Teachers State College in Kearney. Upon graduating in 1957 he moved his growing family to Roseland, Neb. to teach Industrial Arts, Drivers Ed and coach. In June of 1959, he moved his family to Auburn Wash. from Nebraska and signed a teaching contract later that year to teach at Olympic Jr. High in The Highline District for one year and then the next year moved to Olympic Jr. High in Auburn. During the summers of 1961-63, Robert attended Oregon State University, earning his Masters Degree in Industrial Arts. In 1965, because he didn't want to teach in the same school his children were in he moved over to Auburn High School and taught there for two years and then in 1967 he moved to Kent Jr. High where he taught wood shop and was Dept. Chairman. He retired from teaching in 1986 and moved to Ellensburg, Wash. to farm in 1987. After selling the farm, he enjoyed working with his son, Mark, swathing hay during the summers.Robert loved quarter horses, he owned many over the years and was a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association. Raising registered Black Angus cattle was also something that he liked to do and he was a lifetime member of the American Angus Association. He was also a member of the Ellensburg Rodeo Posse and the Washington Cattlemen's Association and served as a past president for Kittitas County Cattlemens Association.He loved Jesus and he enjoyed serving Him in many ways. He and Marjory raised their family in Auburn, Wash. and attended the Auburn Free Methodist Church, where they still have family and many dear friends. He was a member of Mercer Creek Church while in Ellensburg until their move to Lewiston in April of last year. In Lewiston they attended CrossPoint Alliance Church. He and Marjory enjoyed traveling and camping as a family and when retired traveled in their motorhome and spent the winters in Mesa, Ariz. He enjoyed serving with Sowers Ministry - Servants On Wheels Ever Ready, offering volunteer help to Christian ministries.He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Wheeler Garfield Greene, Sarah Anne Greene, Clarence Lee Greene, Benjamin Harrison Greene, James Earl Greene, Ada Pauline Welsh, Bertha May Rusinek and George Ray Greene.A celebration of Robert's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, at Mercer Creek Church, 1407 North B St., Ellensburg, Wash. Family and friends are welcome to come to the service and reception following.
