Clark, Robert Cameron Robert Cameron Clark, a former Tempe/Scottsdale resident and Professor Emeritus at Arizona State University, died on August 23, 2017 in Houston. He was 85. Robert was born on September 13, 1931 in Byron, Nebraska to Robert Wesley Clark and Thelma Fern Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Evelyn Lou Clark. He is survived by his four children, Susan Clark Joul, Barbara Clark, Robert Clark and Jill Meiburg, his four grandchildren, Ivy Joul, Henry Meiburg, Sebastian Meiburg and Maxwell Meiburg, and his sister, Carol Chamberlin. From a very early age, "Bob" was fascinated with music. He began piano lessons in the fourth grade and held his first church job ? playing the organ ? at age 14. He went on to study organ at Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri. He completed his graduate studies in New York City at Union Theological Seminary's School of Sacred Music. From 1964-1981, he was Professor of Organ at the
University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He spent the final 17 years of his teaching career at Arizona State University, where he played a decisive role in expanding the organ program at ASU's School of Music. A crowning achievement was the dedication of the Fritts & Co. organ in 1992 at the School of Music's Organ Hall, which was specifically designed to house the historically-inspired instrument. He recorded two CDs on the Fritts organ and five others over the course of his career, among them "Bach at Naumburg," a recording on the fully restored Hildebrandt organ at the Wenzelskirche in Naumburg, Germany. Bob will be remembered as a highly respected teacher and an accomplished recitalist, and as a loving husband, father and grandfather. A memorial service will be held at Saint Barnabas on the Desert Episcopal Church (6715 North Mockingbird Lane, Paradise Valley, AZ; 85253) on Saturday, September 9th at 3:00 p.m.
