Robert Cecil Powers, Jr.Age: 64 • Fishersville, VARobert Cecil Powers, Jr. of Fishersville passed away on April 20, 2017 at the Shenandoah Nursing Home. He had endured the ravages of cancer for over 2 years.Robert was born on January 15, 1953 at the Francis E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming the only child of the late Robert C. Powers, Sr. and Elizabeth (Murphy) Powers Lumadue. In addition to his Mother, he is survived by his Step-father, Harry M. Lumadue; an Uncle, George Fearnley of Peabody, MA; his step-sister and her husband, Linda and Don Burke of Michigan; a step-brother, H. Michael Lumadue and his wife, Sue of Florida; and a step-sister, Janine Woodworth of New Hampshire; two half-sisters, Lauren Ellard and her husband, Peter and Kirsten Boroskey and her husband, William, all of Connecticut. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. Robert was pre-deceased by a dear cousin, Jen Baldwin Fuller of Swoope.Robert was educated in the Brookline, MA public schools and attended Acadia University in Wolfville, N.S. He resided in Atlanta for 17 years, employed by Emory University Hospital before moving to the Shenandoah Valley in 1995. He was employed by the Michie Company, later LexusNexus in Charlottesville as a Senior Legal Editor for 15 years when he became semi-retired and finished his working career at Community Bank where he worked part-time until the bank was sold.During his early years in the area he volunteered as a CASA case worker, as well as at the Augusta Co. Library, the Free Clinic and was a Big Brother.Several furry companions resided with Robert over a period of years. They "found" him; he never had to go to the SPCA to adopt a cat. Robert was a writer and spent his spare time writing a semi-autobiographical book which has not been published. He also wrote poetry and short stories. His other passion was sports, especially the Boston Red Sox, the Atlanta Braves, the N.E. Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons. His wish was to survive until the Super Bowl game in February.After all treatment options for his disease had been exhausted he became a member of Hospice; his family want to express sincere appreciation for all their help and guidance. We wish to especially thank Amy Eye, Debbie Brown, LeeAnne Cruse and Christine Losh all of whom so lovingly cared for him. Our thanks as well to the Shenandoah Nursing Home and especially Bethany, Marie, and others whose names we do not know. There will be no public services.
