Robert Donald OsborneAGE: 83 • Newark1933-2016Robert Donald "Bob" Osborne, formerly of Newark, DE, passed away on December 7, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah, after a short illness related to complications from a broken hip. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis Mead Osborne, his four children, and three granddaughters.Bob was born on Sept. 6, 1933 in Buffalo, NY, to Arthur Josiah and Elsa Marie Osborne. He earned a BS in mechanical engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1955 and later pursued graduate studies at the State University of New York, Buffalo, and the University of Delaware. A certified professional engineer, he worked for 30 years for the DuPont Co., where he was an inventor and contributor to numerous company processes, facilities and locations. After taking early retirement from DuPont, he started an energy and carbon recovery business in Northeastern Pennsylvania and later worked as a bus driver transporting special needs students for the Christina School District. He and Phyllis relocated to Salt Lake City in 2015 to be near family. Bob was a longtime officer and member of the Torch Club of Delaware, where he was a frequent speaker on a variety of topics. Bob was also a member for five decades of the First Presbyterian Church of Newark, where he served in a number of leadership positions. In addition to his wife, Phyllis, Bob is survived by daughters Kathleen Osborne Clute of Concord, MA, Cheryl Osborne Williams of Pinehurst, NC, and Ellen Osborne Barone of Alto, NM; son Robert D. Osborne, Jr., of Sandy, UT; sons-in-law Greg Clute and Henry Barone; daughter-in-law Carol Straka Osborne; and granddaughters Madeleine Clute of New York and Elsa and Catherine Osborne of Sandy, UT. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Lee Anderson of Warminster, PA, and his brother Arthur T. Osborne of Penn Yan, NY, and numerous nieces and nephews.A private family service was held on Dec. 9.
