December 26, 1926 - December 10, 2016 Robert Hiram Harnar, Jr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 10. He was 89. Bob was born on December 26, 1926 in Lawrence, Kansas to Lenore Cashion Harnar and Robert H. Harnar. At age three, Bob and his family moved to Los Angeles. He proudly served his country in the 82nd Airborne from 1945 to 1946 and graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in Business Administration. At USC, he made lifelong friendships as a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. In his distinguished 35-year career at Ford Motor Company, Bob held public relations posts in Los Angeles, Dearborn, New York, Chicago, and Anaheim. Bob was a faithful member of the Palisades United Methodist Church and a resident of San Clemente since 1982. His travels included the North and South Poles, all seven continents, and 128 countries. He was a volunteer and board member at Family Assistance Ministries, a charity that provides food and shelter to those in need in South Orange County. He helped pioneer the FAM Hunger Walk and played a longstanding leadership role right up through the highly successful 29th annual walk on October 16. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marilyn Hodges Harnar. Marilyn was his best friend, tennis partner, travel companion, and unwavering source of unconditional love. Bob is survived by his loving children Ron Harnar (wife Laura), Lori Donchak (husband Andrew), and Jeff Harnar. He was especially proud of his grandchildren Lisa Donchak, Scott Donchak, Greg Harnar, and Matt Harnar. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 16, at Palisades United Methodist Church, 27002 Camino de Estrella, Capistrano Beach, CA 92624.
