HALONENHusband, father, businessman, professor and philanthropist, Robert John ("Bob") Halonen passed away at his home on Sunday, August 13th, 2017 at the age of 77 after a year-long battle with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare form of cancer. The only child of the late Edward and Martha Halonen, Robert was born on March 18th 1940 in Virginia, Minnesota. He is an alumnus of Gilbert (MN) High School, the
University of Minnesota (BSB), the University of Chicago (MBA) and the University of Arizona (PhD). Prior to moving to Cincinnati, Robert lived for many years in Charleston, West Virginia. Having shown an aptitude for finance, Robert spent his early professional years as a professor. He taught undergraduate and graduate level courses in Economics, Finance and Healthcare Administration at numerous institutions, including the University of Arizona and
Virginia Commonwealth University. The majority of his career was spent in healthcare. Over the course of this career, he was entrusted with managing the financial operations of Trihealth, where he was CFO, The Bethesda Foundation (Treasurer), the Sisters of Charity Healthcare System (SVP of Finance), Georgetown University Medical Center (CFO) and Charleston Area Medical Center (VP Finance). Robert felt strongly about giving back to the community and applied his talents by serving on various boards of numerous organizations, including Kaleida Healthcare, The College of Mount St. Joseph, Lighthouse Youth Services and . Robert is survived by his wife, Susan and his four children, Michael (Michelle), Matthew (Laura), Kathleen and Christopher. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Kathleen Braun and his three grandchildren. Family, friends and others whose lives Robert touched are invited to a memorial celebration of his life from 4 to 6 PM on Saturday, August 19th, 2017 at Kenwood Country Club.
