Robert Harold Navarette, 90, lifelong resident of Azusa, California and a recent resident of the North Plains community of Oregon passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 in Hillsboro, Oregon. Robert was born on March 5, 1926 in Los Angeles, Ca. He was one of five children born to Victor and Tomasa (Lopez) Navarette. He was raised in Azusa, California. He was drafted into the US Army in 1944 as an infantry soldier. Served his country in
WWII, he fought with honor and selflessness. He was captured in 1945, spent 29 long days as a prisoner of war in Germany before being freed by US troops. Shortly after being discharged, Robert reenlisted and served as a drill sergeant at Camp Roberts, Ca. and as a Military P.O. in Japan for three years Robert met his future wife, Helen Ochoa and had two year courtship they were married on May 1, 1954 at St. Francis of Rome Catholic Church in Azusa, CA. Following their marriage they made their home on Pasadena Street in Azusa where they raised six children. Robert was known for his immaculate hair, sharp dress, kind gentle personality and sense of humor. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen, a daughter, Monica and three siblings, Victoria, Frank and Raymond. Survived by five children and their spouses; Eileen and Daniel Stinchfield of North Plains, Thomas and Liz Navarette of Azusa, Steven Navarette and his partner Patsy Gomez both of Azusa, Robert J. and Gretta Navarette of Azusa, Diana Pedroza and her fiancée Raul Acosta both of Beaverton, a brother and sister-in-law; John and Mary Lou Navarette of Azusa, sister-in-law’s Jenny Molina of Duarte and Ana Ochoa of Yuma, twenty three grandchildren and forty one great grandchildren as well as numerous nephews and nieces and Godchildren. Rosary will be held in Oregon will be held Wednesday, Dec. 14th at 7 pm at St. Edwards Catholic Church under the direction of Duyck & VanDeHey Funeral Home. Visitation/Rosary will also be held in California on Sunday, Dec. 18th at Oakdale Mortuary in Glendora from 1-4 pm with Rosary at 3 pm. Funeral Services will be held Monday, Dec. 19th at St. Frances Catholic Church in Azusa at 9:00 AM with interment to follow at Oakdale Memorial Park in Glendora, CA.
