Robert J. Martin, 91, of Ormond Beach, passed away on November 12, 2016 in Ormond Beach. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, November 21, 2016 in the Chapel at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona. A Visitation will be held from 12:00pm until the Service begins also at the Funeral Home on Monday, Nov. 21, 2016. Robert was born on October 8, 1925 in Joliet, Illinois to the late Robert Anderson Stewart and Margaret Hamilton Robertson Martin. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during WWII and then retired after 36 years with the Federal Government Civil Service as an Engineering Technician from NASA, KSC. Robert was a life member of the VFW Post 1590, a member of the American Legion Post 120, a 60 year member of the Merritt Island Masonic Lodge and was a volunteer with the Volusia County Sheriff's Department for over 15 years. He enjoyed traveling, dancing and playing cards. He is survived by his son, Robert Bruce Martin of Oreana, IL; daughter, Sandra S. Burgess of Holly Hill, FL; two grandchildren, Greg Burgess of Daytona Beach and Cissy Burgess (Jeff Hoffman) of Ormond Beach; two great-grandchildren, Morgan Bertha and Garrett Bertha; and his companion, Mary Haas of Ormond Beach. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Eva L. White Martin; a son, Richard Sherrard; a grandson, Robert Burgess and a sister, Betty Lynch. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 120, 461 Walker Street, Holly Hill, FL, 32117, specifically to: Operation Care Packages for the Military.
