XENIA — Robert Dow Knight died at his home in Xenia on Wednesday, June 18, 2014. He was born on March 1, 1912, in Carroll County, Ohio. He was the third child out of six children born to Vesta Ellen Boroughs and L. Dow Knight. Robert was preceded in death by all of his siblings, a daughter, Karen Stensrud and a son-in-law, Arney C. Stensrud, also a stepson, Larry Charles Nelson. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Eleanor, as well as two daughters, Marcia Greer (Carl) of Xenia, and Priscilla Miller (Michael) of Xenia and by a son, Robert Knight (Anita) of Denver, Colorado. Robert also leaves 7 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends who will miss his dry humor and good advice. Robert worked most of his adult working life at Forman Brothers Riggers and Movers in Dayton, where he was a crane operator. He was a member of the Xenia Friends Church where he was active for many years. Robert served in the United States Army during World War II in both the European and Pacific Theaters. He graduated from O.C.S. at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. He participated in the campaigns of Central Europe, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Northern France in the 975 Engineer Maintenance Company. Robert enjoyed woodworking and building miniatures, working in his beautiful yard, reading and visiting with his extended family. He lived in the gracious home that he designed and built in 1949 and always welcomed visitors. The family would like to thank special friends Brian Winters and Thom and Barb Richardson who were there when they were needed. Services will be held at 10am, Monday, June 23, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with Pastor Lois Hackney officiating. Visitation will be held from 3-5pm Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Valley View Memorial Gardens.
