This obituary is administered by:
Robert (Bob) LaClair Stevenson passed away on August 9, 2014 in El Mirage, AZ with his wife, Donna, by his side. He was 78 years old. Bob was born on December 23, 1935 in French Camp, CA to LaClair and Alice Stevenson. The family moved to Alaska at the end of World War II. They originally settled in Hoonah and then moved to Juneau. Bob graduated from Juneau High School in 1955. In 1956 he went to work for Foodland Supermarket and remained there until 1967. At that time he changed careers and became a journeyman lineman. Over his 30 years as a lineman he worked for Juneau-AJ Mines, spent time working on the North Slope and throughout Alaska and then joined Alaska Electric Light & Power's lineman crew. He spent many holidays out in inclement, winter weather with the AEL&P crews working to restore power for Juneau's residents. He remained with AEL&P until he retired in 1997. Upon his retirement his family joked that he might actually now be home for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was fishing on their boat the M/V Ranger, picnics at Auke Rec, hunting at the family cabin in Tenakee Springs, skiing Eaglecrest in the winter, or joining holiday gatherings. These family gatherings would find Bob teaching his grandsons how to gracefully lose game after game of cribbage. Working the Sunday crossword puzzle was a favorite pastime and he was an avid reader of everything concerning history. He collected guns, especially muzzleloaders, some of which he made himself. In 2000 Bob and Donna became "snowbirds" and purchased a second home in El Mirage, AZ. They would spend the winters staying warm but returned to Juneau in the spring to reconnect with family and enjoy the Juneau summers. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Donna, nèe Buckner; his daughters, Monica Butler (Mike) of Juneau; Lisa Goers (Ralph) of Waddell, AZ; Tama Stevenson, of Anchorage; and daughter-in-law Ronda Stevenson of Juneau.
