Robert Leroy StanleySan AngeloRobert Leroy Stanley, 92, of San Angelo, passed away on April 23, 2017 at a local nursing home. Robert was born on May 8, 1924, to Jesse and Louisa (Anderson) Stanley at home near Priddy, Texas. He was just fifteen days short of 93. Robert joined the Church of Christ when he was just 16 years old and was baptized in a creek near Miles along with his brother, Mel and fourteen others. He joined the Army Air Corp, at the age of 18, during World War II. He served at Concho Field and in the South Pacific where he was wounded and spent 11 months hospitalized. He married LuElla Baker on Jan. 24, 1944, in San Angelo. He learned how to make boots from M. L. Leddy. Later on, he put in his own boot shop where he made boots for the next 50 years. Robert placed his membership in Chadbourne North Church of Christ formerly known as the Fairground Road Church of Christ.Robert was preceded in death by his parents; Jess and Lou (Anderson) Stanley along with two brothers; Mel and Raymond Stanley.Robert is survived by his loving wife of 73 years; Lu Ella Baker Stanley, two sons, Roy Lee (Joellen) Stanley of San Angelo, Jimmy James Stanley of Clovis, California; daughter, Betty Lu (Bob) White of San Angelo; grandson, Joey James (Lorrie) Stanley of Cedar Park, Texas; granddaughter, Lu Ann (Mark) Reding of Port Orchard, Washington; step-granddaughter, Becky Boring of San Angelo and step-grandson, Chris White of Hamilton, Texas; along with 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.Family visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Graveside service is at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, in the Miles Cemetery with Mr. Frank Berthold, officiating under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Senior Care, The Springs and Kindred Hospice and Texas Veterans for Veterans where he was a lifetime member, for all the loving care and support shown to the Stanley family in this time of need.
