Robert Leslie Jr, 88, of Durham, North Carolina, passed on March 02, 2021. Bob was born on September 03, 1932 in East Los Angeles to Robert and Isabella Leslie. His parents immigrated to the US from Scotland through Ellis Island. He had an older sister, Olive, who preceeded him in death in 1955. He grew up in Pico Rivera, CA and was an animal lover having dogs, pigeons, and a donkey as pets. He graduated from Whittier Union High School in 1950 and was soon drafted into the Army during the Korean War. There he was trained in communications and once discharged went to work for what became General Telephone Co. There he met and married his first wife, Lena Jeanette Leslie, and lived in La Mirada, CA. Their only child, Robert Leslie III, was born there in 1958. In 1966 he moved the family to live in Valencia, CA and was promoted to engineer in the San Fernando office of GTE. He also enjoyed being outdoors gardening, camping, fishing and boating. Sadly, Lena died an early death in 1979. Bob remarried Evelyn Gilmore Leslie for a period, then divorced and moved to central CA in Exeter. He went to live in Honolulu, HI and work as a contractor for Hawaiian Telephone for a few years and many good times. Bob returned to CA and met his third wife, Lucille Spears Leslie. There they had more animals, ponys and dogs. They bred Sheltie Sheepdogs but could not part with the puppies and ended up with seven. Their son, Bobby, and his wife, Cathy, and their first child, Aaron, had moved to Chapel Hill, NC to live and work. Bob and Lucy decided to join them and loaded the dogs in a motorhome and drove across the country to Durham. Lucy preceeded Bob in death in June, 2020. He is survived by his son, Bob III, daughter-in-law, Cathy, and grandchildren, Aaron and Isabel Leslie. His wishes were to have no service. In brief, his life could be captured by Sinatra's song, "I did it my way." Many thanks go to Duke University Hospital and Brian Center Yanceyville for their kind and loving care of Bob.
