Robert M. Gathings, Sr.Ridgeland, MSRobert M. Gathings, Sr., of Ridgeland, MS, went to be with the Lord on August 14, 2017, at the age of 86 years. Visitation will be at Parkway Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland, MS, on Thursday, August 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with funeral services immediately thereafter.Bob was the eleventh of thirteen children born to the late James M. and Minnie S. Gathings of Pageland, South Carolina. He is survived by his younger sister, Sue G. Rappe of Matthews, NC, his beloved wife of 61 years, Peggy G. Gathings of Mount Holly, North Carolina, and his 5 children: Elaine G. Hall (Rudy) of Gadsden, AL; Dianna G. Bullock (Lamar) of Madison, MS; Rebecca G. Kincaid (H. Patton IV) of Madison, MS; Robert M. Gathings, Jr. (Anne Toy) of Jackson, MS; and James M. Gathings II (Stephanie) of Ridgeland, MS; 12 grandchildren: Rudy L. Hall, Jr. (Kassy) and Courtney H. Thompson (Kelley), all of Gadsden, AL; Robert M. Gathings III, M.D. (Leaha) of Charleston, SC; Toy E. Gathings of Nashville, TN; John L. Gathings of Dallas, TX; Anna Lauren Gathings; James M. Gathings III; John Phillip Gathings, all of Ridgeland, MS; William L. Bullock; Sarah P. Bullock; H. Patton Kincaid V; Ella C. Kincaid, all of Madison, MS, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also the great-grandfather of Liam, Riley, Eva and Emery.Mr. Gathings was born on Christmas Day, 1930 in Pageland, SC. He grew up working on the family farm before graduating from Pageland High School and joining the Army. He served two years active duty during the Korean War.Bob married Peggy Greene on June 10, 1956. His college studies were in business and finance and he worked in this field over the next 40 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson, MS and was a former Deacon ofBriarwood Drive Baptist Church, Jackson, MS where he sang in the choir. Bob loved spending time with family, gardening, and was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. His greatest love was his Savior, Jesus Christ.
