Robert Morris PrinceOxnard, CARobert Morris Prince passed away peacefully on September 6, 2017 from complications due to COPD (pulmonary disease) at the age of 73. He was born on August 15, 1944 at Tempe Hospital in Arizona and was raised in Mesa, AZ. He lived briefly in Pacific, WA in the early 1970s (where his mom later live) before eventually moving to Oxnard, CA. His parents were John Morris Prince (who was Seaman Second Class in the Navy at the time of his birth) and Mary Prince (nee Manning).He served in the
US Air Force from 1962 until 1971 (8 years, 10 months, 14 days). His training was in San Antonio, and he was later stationed in Phoenix, New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Carolina, Mississippi, Waco, Taiwan, Thailand, and Guam where he was a Ground Radio Repairman (of which he received the Air Force Commendation Medal). He also worked on L-1011s, and was Honorably Discharged holding the rank of Staff Sergeant.He met his wife, Sung, in Vietnam while working as a civilian contractor for the US
Army from 1971-1973, repairing AVIs (radios and navigations). They got married in Vietnam, and later returned to the US and eventually moved to Oxnard, CA where he entered Civil Service with the
US Navy in 1973 as an Electronics Mechanic at Point Mugu, CA. He was later transferred to Aircraft Maintenance, then was promoted to Electronics Mechanic Leader, and Electronics Technician working at the Naval Weapons Test Squadron. During his career he received numerous performance and beneficial suggestion awards. He also earned his diploma in Communications Engineering Technology from the Capitol Radio Engineering Institute in 1975.He became a proud papa when his daughter Cindy was born in 1975. And he and his wife & daughter would load up their camper/trailer and go traveling to visit state & national parks. He retired in 1996 after 34 years of civil service. In his spare time he would begin repairing, building, and selling personal computers to many grateful citizens in the Ventura/Santa Barbara/L.A. County areas.He truly enjoyed watching NASCAR (following his favorite drivers Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr), watching Doctor Who (and collecting the DVDs), building and assembling dozens of model airplanes and ships, working on his, 1968 Cadillac, listening to Classic Rock music, going camping and traveling to many state & national parks, and enjoyed being in the mountains. And he was always drinking his favorite soda, Throwback Mountain Dew.He dearly loved both his wife, Sung, and his daughter, Cindy. He also loved the many dogs he had over the years.He was preceded in death by his wife Sung Thi Prince (nee Nguyen), and his brother Ronnie Prince. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy T. Mancini (nee Prince), his half-brother Danny Roberts, his half-sister Sharon Hensel (nee Roberts), and his Shetland Sheepdog, Dodger.Upon his request, Robert Prince will be cremated and his ashes (along with his deceased wife's) will be scattered. A memorial service will be arranged at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name and honor to reputable organizations that promote anti-smoking campaigns or that help those who are desperately trying to quit smoking.Robert was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by his daughter and those who knew him.Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Otto & Son's, Aabbey Memorial (805) 487-4200.
