HANOVER TWP. — Robert Paul 'Bob' Lanning, 78, of Redcoat Lane, Hanover Township, and formerly of Hertford, N.C., died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016, in his daughter's home in Hertford.
Mr. Lanning was born on May 16, 1938, in Luzerne County and was the son of the late Edward and Cecilia (Zaledonis) Lanning. Bob was honored to have served his country in the U.S. Navy and as a demolitions expert and technical advisor for the Department of Defense. After retirement, he continued as a technical consultant with the government and private industries in counter-terrorism. He loved his job which took him all over the world. While raising his family, they lived in various places, including Virginia, North Carolina, Thailand, Greece and Germany.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ona (Zujus) Lanning; three sisters, Mary, Marguerite and Joan; and by five brothers, William, Joseph, James, Michael and Jack.
Surviving are his two daughters, Diane (Lanning) Waters and husband, Melvin, of Hertford, and Denise (Lanning) Rusinko and husband, Rob, of Mountain Top; a sister, Cecilia Lanning, of Kingston; three brothers, Edward Lanning, of Chicago, and Frank and Raymond Lanning, both of Kingston; and three grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Waters and Colin Rusinko.
A private service will be held. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
