Robert (Mac) RobertsKnoxville, TNRobert McArthur (Mac) Roberts, aged 74, of Knoxville, passed away on Wednesday July 12, 2017, at U.T. Medical Center. He was born on October 28, 1942, in Morristown, TN to Sallie Buell Roberts and Robert (Bob) Newton Roberts. Mac was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Pathfinders Sunday School Class. He was also a thirty-eight year member of the Cherokee Lions Club of Morristown. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1960 until 1963, where he was on board the USS Boxer during the Cuban Missile Crisis stockade of October 1962. After graduating from ETSU in 1971, he began his career as a terminal manager for Roadway, after which he spent thirty years in the business forms industry. He started his own business in 1997 where he was the owner of Pro-Forma Graphics Management in Knoxville until his retirement in 2008. He was a football official for high schools and small colleges for thirty-three years. He enjoyed hunting, officiating football, travel, mountain biking in Utah with Sue and his children, and playing with his grandchildren. Most recently he and Sue participated in trivia competition. Sue and Mac traveled extensively, especially in the West, during their years together and had some "serious" adventures in the desert areas of the western states. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Sallie Roberts. He is survived by wife of fifteen years, Sue Underwood Roberts; children, Timothy Roberts (Corinne) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Melissa Roberts Sills (Greg), and Kimberly Roberts Fender (Brett) both of Knoxville; the mother of his children, Edna Yarbrough Moyes of Knoxville; Sue's children, Sean Carroll (Joanna) of Summerville, SC, and Eric Carroll (Rachael) of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Kade, Olivia, Afton, Natali, Irelan, Levi, Ivey, Isaiah, Robbie, Zoe, Julia, Holly, Alan, Jillian, Katie, and Sean; siblings, Rachel Roberts
Smith (Doug) of Oliver Springs, Ray E. Roberts (Patricia) of Morristown, and Charles Roberts (Nancy) of Knoxville; and his nieces and their children. A Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday July 15, 2017, at Church Street United Methodist Church (900 Henley Street, Knoxville, TN 37902. A reception will follow in the Commons. The family and friends will meet at 9:15 am Tuesday July 18, 2017, at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery (John Sevier Highway) for a 9:30 am inurnment service with military honors presented by East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard.
